Do you know what the worst thing to me is? No! No! Not waking up Monday mornings. Yes, that too, but what is worse is waking up one day to get ready for your university just to realize that a shirt that had a loose fit on you two weeks back hardly fits you now. Putting on flab during summers is like not eating mangoes during the season! Darn… I know it doesn’t make much sense but then again how can one possibly not eat mangoes in summers and then again how can one not gain weight after slicing into them.
Arghhhhh… enough of whining and cribbing. Not being quite a designer that I would love to believe I am, I would still want to talk about how I played around some tricks with my cuts to hide my problem areas and guess what? I found the perfect short term solution to relieve myself off the idea of “tyres” (accumulation of body fat) being seen by others.
I made my tailor increase the size of my “chaakz” (side slits) as much as I was comfortable with and this caved in to give me a taller look taking the emphasis off the thigh area. The trendy front open shirts further aided my sleeker outlook as it helped tone down my pronounced belly. Make them as long as you are comfortable with, ensuring they aint too inviting, if you know what I mean. Banned and collared neck-lines are inn despite the heat and they can be carried easily during the windy monsoon. And don’t be too afraid to get three quarter sleeves stitched. Break the summer rules and cover up all that flab. Trust me they would look very elegant. The longer the shirt length the more surface area your “kameez” would have to flow downwards in its own style.Do not make the mistake of accentuating your curves with front plaits in your shirts. Let your shirts flow and get the feel of Marylin Monroe in monsoon with your front-open shirts flowing in the wind.Tight fitted shirts should be an absolute NO! Chiffon dupattas are a big YES! They act as an accessory and give a sleeker look as compared to cotton/lawn ones. Cover up but with elegance.Long loose khaadi kurtas are a blessing in such times by the way. So flaunt your fashion sense as they look completely hip and trendy.
These cuts however, allow to give some breathing space and solves our dilemmas temporarily only girls. Just to warn you all out there, this short lived happiness wont last forever. The long term ETERNAL happiness would materialize only when we all would pull onto our track pants, t-shirts and joggers and walk towards the lovely treadmill!
So technically its not a really a sin to eat mangoes this summer if one can follow the myth of stylized cuts in dressing. They wont be around for long so no point regretting later as the season is about to sign off already, leaving your taste buds untouched. So take my advice, slice them and cherish every bite.
